prayer shawl

here is a prayer shawl i made for my friend k's mom, who was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. words cannot begin to describe how my heart aches for her. i knit this shawl out the best yarn i had, and it happened to be in a colorway somewhat close to her favorite color.

i made this card and enclosed this poem that i excerpted from ravelry.com:

A Prayer Shawl

This is a simple prayer shawl
Knitted just for you
To show you that I love you
And I'm praying for you too.
The oddness of the pattern
Is significant you see
It represents uncertainties
Life throws at you and me…
Most importantly of all
I hope you know it's true
Each stitch I knitted represents
A prayer sent for you.


yarn: peek a boo fly by flydesigns; 75% bamboo, 25% superwash merino wool. fingering weight.
needles: size 8
pattern: lace ribbon scarf

i was actually hoping for a longer shawl but i ran out of yarn a lot sooner than i thought i would (my calculations at the end of the other project with this yarn suggested i had 600 yards left, but i think there was more like 200-300ish). so it's just enough to wrap around the shoulders and secure with this cute matching shawl pin that i found in charlottesville. i think it will be okay, given her petite stature and the fact that it is now high summer in houston. i just hope it will give her a little bit of a warm hug if the chemo room is chilly.
