why boats need to be careful

a bisected loggerhead that washed up on the beach in front of our condo. :(
i should have put something in the picture to suggest its size - you can sorta see the tip of a shoe behind the turtle. its head was easily the size of my two feet stacked on top of each other.

i used this picture to answer the assignment "parent as prop" - take a kid portrait with a part of the adult (in this case, a friend of the parent) in the frame such that the adult is not the subject, but adds to the portrait of the kid. too bad i didn't have the foresight to throw a towel or sheet over the couch in the background.

a mini photo shoot

practicing some photo shoot skills to get some pictures of this absolutely adorable 22 month old. it was the calm before the storm: cloudy light. a bit too dark though - i had to use fill flash. forgot that i could pump up my ISO. it was really right before the storm - we took pictures quickly and raindrops started falling as we came back.

hilton head peeps

a lovely reunion! kunal and mike went to school with us, and kunal generously offered his parents' beachfront condo for our vacation. here we are just before one of our many fine dinners together. at charley's crab house i had the finest cornbread i've ever had (love that brown sugar topping) and some garlic coated sea bass to die for. in between bites i had to run after the boo, but i didn't mind so much because this was my view.


our fabulous hosts. little ava is 22 months old and so much calmer compared with boo!
i've actually known kunal since 7th grade, he reminded me ... i think we were in the same class together at a duke summer camp. then we went to science camp together after 11th grade, then the same college, then med school!

pure joy

more pics from hilton head. boo was the picture of happiness on the beach. there was no searching for the perfect spot to sit; he was content with the first square foot of sand he reached. the first pics - rare ones of him smiling for the camera now - were as he was chanting "muddy muddy muddy! are you muddy in the bathtub? muddy muddy muddy!" and running circles around daddy.

the water is warm ... sort of

just got back from hilton head, where we had a mini-reunion with some friends from med school. it was the perfect vacation - beach and water! boo got over his fear of the waves and had a great time in the water.

he's my son

today i had a skein of peach/yellow baby homespun set aside to crochet some charity afghan squares. evan picked it up and said "I love this yarn! It's so pretty!" and ran around with it all morning. "this is my favorite color. I like this yarn."
