(formatting these pictures with the text has been challenging. pardon me while i trial-and-error this. if you have any tips on how to manipulate this more easily, please help!)
- evan got a present from grandma - "the monkey and the crocodile" book, which he loved hearing over and over when he was in virginia/DC. he immediately pounced on it and exclaimed, "is that my favorite?!" it has a nice ending, unlike the song of the same theme that he likes so much. ("5 little monkeys sitting in the tree / teasing mr. crocodile can't catch me! / along came mr. crocodile quiet as can be / and SNAPped that monkey right out of the tree!")
- a new diaper bag (to bring to the wedding in vancouver that we're attending next month), bought from ebay for 1/3 the price of retail
- a new (used) knitting bag, from another ravelry
member (with a little surprise inside - a sheep charm!). it has compartments inside for hooks/needles/notions and such, yet looks nice enough to take to a nice function.
- the great american aran afghan
- one of a series of afghan books that i and my mother-in-law fell in love with in virginia. i've never appreciated afghan books before. but these are modern booklets from modern designers, with oh-so-fun patterns to do. check out the gorgeous border on this afghan!
- viking patterns for knitting: my mother-in-law has this book too. it's a book of nordic cable patterns that look way too complicated for me. there's even a page of old swedish runes so that you can knit your name in runes! i just thought that was too cool to pass up when i found a used copy on ravelry. she wants to do the afghan made out of all the pattern swatches from the book. i think this will be crazy hard. here's a picture of the afghan from the designer herself.
