i've been a wimp about starting a compost pile ... i've wanted to compost forever, because we eat a ton of veggies and i throw a ton of good compostable food scraps away. however, i am such a weenie when it comes to worms and bugs, which usually comes with the territory - especially when turning the compost. yech.
so look what came in the mail today ... the naturemill indoor composter! we're keeping it in the garage, just outside the door from the mudroom. i got it started (needs 2 cups of outside dirt, 2 cups of sawdust pellets, and about 10ish cups of compostable stuff) and it needs to percolate for a week; after that, i can add food scraps at will. supposedly it churns out compost in just 2 weeks. i'm not particularly anxious about that - i'm a bit worried that dixie will eat it, but i'll cross that bridge when i come to it - so i can wait a little longer. but it will be great for the garden in the fall! i'm so excited!
what's that word for environmentalist yuppies? i just googled it, and it says "guppie." but that word is also used to refer to gay yuppies. hm, any slang experts out there?
