holiday prep
on to brighter topics. a couple of holiday crafting projects -
- took the "merry berry wreath" making class at the chicago botanic garden. the first time i've taken a class that i took once before - because this class is simply awesome. 3 reasons: 1, you get all the materials to make a great evergreen wreath. 2, if you take the last session of the class, you get to take a bunch of the leftover extra evergreen branches home - i get enough to make a mantelpiece swag, a dining room centerpiece or two, and this year i did a mailbox swag! 3. no cleanup!!
this wreath features 4 main kinds of evergreen: pine, balsam fir, boxwood, and arborvitae. the different textures really add to the interest of the arrangements. i also like the rosehips as the large "berries."
this year i ordered fireplace doors (arriving around christmas, hopefully) so i needed an alternative way to display all the christmas cards. (last year i hung them from the stocking hooks.) so i made a ribbon board inspired by this site, and got to break out my mini glue gun for the first time. i had no idea of the power of the glue gun.
lastly, i made a stocking for boo by using my new needlefelting skills. i was a bit worried because the only fun colors of wool felt at joann's were only blends, and kind of pathetic ones at that (less than 50%). but you apparently don't need a lot of wool to be able to needle felt it.

Beautiful wreath. Love the card holder. I might steal that idea for next year! You think the glue gun is great? Wait until you get a rotary tool! LOL!
