last night we joined my brother and his family for a father's day dinner at otom. the sous chef of moto - famed for its molecular gastronomy cuisine - opened a restaurant two doors down and decided to champion comfort food. but with a delicious twist.
the best dish was their rendition of a BLT: caramel braised bacon, smoked tomato jam, romaine puree. by far the best BLT i have ever had. the bacon they used was more the thickness of pork belly in all the fabulousness that pork belly can become. the truffled mac n cheese with bacon was also a hit, though scorned by the kids.
i had the chicken and waffles: purple yam waffle, fried chicken breast, soft boiled egg, and a fried okra. the waffle was very tasty - at least, the one bite i had off it before my kid and nephew ate the rest.
the men had a pork chop with an impressive bacon bread pudding. T had a deep fried whole snapper - the tastiest part of which was the crunchy bone, which you could eat since it was deep fried!
for dessert we had an avocado cheesecake (farm fresh macerated strawberries, graham cracker, pine nuts, served in a small mason jar), coconut flan, and - what i thought was the most interesting - a pineapple carpaccio (white chocolate mousse, mango-macadamia nut salad, cucumber lemon sorbet & caramelized brioche).

your hair looks so pretty! i love it! hope y'all had a great weekend! :)
The BLT and the desserts sound yuuuummy! Pineapple carpaccio sounds a bit too "cute", I can't help thinking though .. The photo of Evan with the pink sunglasses near your masthead(?) (I forget what those are called) are hilarious!
