yesterday was my nephew's 6 year old birthday; though his birthday party was a couple of weeks ago, i'm only now starting to get around to processing the pictures.
he's been working super hard at karate and was really excited about being able to break a board, so he wanted to have a karate birthday party! it was basically a little karate class. boo isn't into classes yet so he hung out the entire time clinging to me or his uncle in some form.
i learned that kids this young break boards with their elbows. the bones don't fully harden in your hands until ages 12-13.
he got to have a 2 minute sparring with the sensei, the 2-3 time japanese karate champion!

as we drove home, i was telling boo that it was great that N. had found something that he really liked and wanted to work really hard at, and wouldn't it be great if boo could find something like that too. he said "mmm, okay. tomorrow."

He certainly doesn't lack for role models with passions and hobbies :) Maybe it will be reading for him .. One of mine was insects. (I kept ants and grasshoppers in the house!). That's probably not a hobby you'd want him to have though. The ants escaped.
